Hiilu is built for music schools by people who would rather the interesting part of the week were the music.
Why it exists
Most schools run on six tools that disagree
A spreadsheet for enrolment, a calendar for classes, a messaging app for announcements, a separate system for invoices, and a folder of attendance sheets that only one person can find. None of them know about each other, so the reconciling is done by a human, every term.
Hiilu holds one record and shows it three ways. The reconciling stops being a job.
What we hold to
Three principles
- A number is real or it is absent
- No page-level guesses, no zeros standing in for “we could not read it”, and no rate without the denominator beside it.
- The school owns its records
- Archiving hides; it does not delete. Attendance taken last year still means what it meant when it was taken.
- Boring infrastructure
- Managed AWS services, no server for a school to maintain, and no machine that has to stay awake for a term to start on time.
